Summer Shoes for Summer 2024
Please, Brooklyn Gods, let's work together to find data on why there are other cute summer shoes besides the Adidas Samba.
According to Statista, 33% of consumers started shopping for spring/summer shoes (Statista, 2019). This means there are 15 days to start thinking about what shoes to wear this summer, but it especially made me think about it on this 72-degree day in Brooklyn.
I started thinking about this because it seems like THE shoe has been Adidas Sambas. But those shoes hurt my feet and bleed every time I break them in, and I am not trying to have blood on my fresh TNA ankle socks every time I repurchase. Yes, I have limped through Dimes Square wearing these, and no, no hot guy there has asked for my number after wearing these. (That might be a me thing, though.)
So, actually, I am going to rely on Google Data and other trends to help me make this decision. Thank you, skaters and ex-boyfriends, for your past contributions to my shoe collection, but I am leading this decision up to Good Ole’ Research! Trump Sneakers: Lol, just kidding (Even though in February we saw a +4,150 increase in Google Searches for these)
Okay, for real, though. (I am sorry if anyone’s terrific indie ex-boyfriend recommended any of these already.) (He is probably not that cool.)
1. Gola Sneakers: Yes, there is some data on this, but I put these sneakers as number one because I like them, and not a ton of people are wearing them yet. (This is MY substack. My rules!) My goal is to put my girls on, so be it! And well, well, according to some Good Ole Research, I found a search inquiry for the Gola Elan’s spiked in March 2024, and number one in Alabama (….?) (I don’t have anything against Alabama, just random.) These sneakers are from the UK, come in tons of different colors, and are super cute and comfy. They are already spiking interest in San Francisco, New York, and LA. So yeah, if you walk into Variety Coffee Shop and see a Williamsburg chick already wearing these, I tried to tell you! However, it looks like in comparison to Sambas, for every 1 Gola sneaker search, there are 87 inquiries for the Adidas Samba. A direct quote from the Grinch on Sambas, “Stupid. Ugly. Out of Date. This is ridiculous.”
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66: OK, these sneakers are so cute, in my opinion. And yes, they are already trending in the District of Columbia (I am from Canada; literally, where is this state?), New York, California, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Other searches related to these sneakers are “Where to buy Onitsuka Tiger Mexico sneakers?” and “Onitsuka Tiger Birch Peacoat.” So yes, once again, I am correct.
Puma Palermos: If you are sick of Adidas and want to wear a brand associated with Rihanna, Puma might be the right fit for you. And these shoes just will not stop trending. They have actually only increased in popularity on a steady incline from October 2023 with a 217% increase in Google Search.
Aloha Sneakers: Not only are these very cute, but they are sustainable, too! From March to now, they have seen an increase in search of 50% from Google, and the girls love them on TikTok. They seem like a cute alternative to the above sneakers and have been pretty under the radar.
If you have reached the bottom of this substack and disagree, I’m sorry! Sambas on me. If you do agree, love you! Send me pictures in your cute sneakers.
