Because who said you needed to play tennis to wear tennis apparel?

Yes, I went to watch Challengers. Yeah, it was good, and yeah, I would like to have Zendaya’s body and entire tennis wardrobe. And the two sexy tennis players following her around the entire movie and then some.

So, obviously, it’s no shocker that the tennis aesthetic is probably not going away anytime soon and will probably be something we see more often than not this summer. (And if you have avidly been reading this Substack because you oh so love me so much, I guess I was right to assume Gola sneakers will be trending this summer.) (Bye Sambas!)

WGSN (Seriously, hire me already) has introduced the term #TennisCore (WGSN, 2024). This trend has been on the horizon for a while, but who could have predicted that a movie about manipulation would be the catalyst to ignite more interest in the game?

As WGSN reported, the pandemic has had a significant influence on the rise of tennis. With more people seeking outdoor activities, the global interest in tennis has surged by 8% YoY into 2024. This is not just a trend, but a global movement, with over 87 million active players across 41 nations, as reported by the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) 2021 Global Tennis Report. (WGSN, 2024)

The numbers on Tiktok for the hashtag #TennisCore has been used over 7 million times worldwide.

So, what does TennisCore mean for consumers like us, and what can we expect to see?
