You ARE Cute Jeans.
Those are mine? No. Oh, I thought you said your cute jeans. I did. Those are my jeans? NO. YOU ARE CUTE JEANS.
I love denim. I wear denim every weekend. I have two drawers full of jeans, and even when I have enough denim, I will probably buy more. I love Levi’s, Wrangler’s, and Rolla’s; I like them vintage and new. I have squeezed my ass into dead-stock jeans from the 70s because a woman in a vintage store off Graham Avenue in Williamsburg told me I looked phenomenal in them and asked to take a photo of me in them for her Instagram. When I put those jeans on, I feel like I need to remove a rib, but they are cute, and I will continue to squeeze into them until I rip them in half. (I call them my standing pants and have to unzip them slightly when I sit down. Hehe.)
I love denim so much that my friend Sam and I took a History of Denim class at Parsons during our undergrad, and it was probably the best elective ever. Our teacher was so cool that she allowed us to bring hummus and chips to class as she walked us through the history of cotton, dye, and denim production in the USA. We literally got to eat chips and dip and talk about Citizens of Humanity jeans and why they should cost so much—or shouldn’t.
That’s why I wanted to write about denim and upcoming denim trends. When I die, instructions are to please bury me in the most form-fitting jeans I own and a going-out top with my hair blown out from a Dyson Airwrap. (No, I’m not being sarcastic…)
All research is my own, based on my own opinion and data collection. :)
(Many of the collections I looked at were more about trending silhouettes that are transferring to denim trends.)
Trousers: We will see more tailored and pleated denim this summer, elevating outfits by giving them a more finished and mature look.
Low-rise Jean Jorts: These might be the summer shorts of 2024.
Leather and denim shorts seen here in the Miu Miu Spring 2024 Show
Also seen on Hailey Bieber last summer with vintage Levi’s here.
Dark Wash Denim: I love this trend, as dark denim can elevate a look and make it look super classy.
Horseshoe Jeans (Idk how to feel about this)
Citizens of Humanity - Debuting eight looks with various colorways for the Horseshoe Denim trend. This is a more affordable option in comparison to Alaïa.
British Vogue defined the Horseshoe Jean trend as the denim silhouette of 2024 seen at Alaïa for AW 2023.
High Waisted
26% of SUPER High-Waisted Pants were seen in Loewe Spring 2024 and were part of 13 out of the 50 looks that debuted.
Low-Waisted: I think several people don’t know how to feel about this; it looks like low-waisted denim is here to stay.
Acne Studios Spring 2024—Low-waisted skirts and jeans account for 15% of looks in this collection, specifically showing acid wash in their denim looks.
Axel Arigato Spring 2024 RTW- Light wash low-waisted baggy denim
Skinny Jeans: I am so happy that in 2017, I got rid of every pair of skinny jeans I owned so they could come back to haunt me in 2024. I love it when trends do that to me. Even though skinny jeans will not immediately bounce back, we will see a more slimmed-down denim silhouette in the coming months.
